Sara Leghissa

Sara Leghissa’s practice takes place mainly in public spaces. Through a principle of ecology of resources, she uses as much as possible of what is already available outdoor in the space.

Sara Leghissa is an independent Italian based artist whose work embraces performing, making and curation and whose research arises from a need of connection and transformation with contexts and people.

Her artistic practice takes place mainly in public spaces. Through a principle of ecology of resources, she uses as much as possible of what is already available outdoor in the space. She creates systems and devices that try to be mimetic with the context in which they occur for intercepting different audiences. She uses accessible technologies linked to the ordinary to convey images and contents.

She explores the dynamics of living and acting together with a community of people, to share temporality and practices, independently, horizontaly and outside the logic of production, through principles of mutalism, care, training and collective self-determination.

Her curation practice hinges on being an independent artist. Together with Annamaria Ajmone and Sarah Parolin, she co-organizes for the Italian scene Nobodys Indiscipline, an international and independent platform for the exchange of practices in the Performing Art, and Nessuno, a public gathering for a community of people who, during the night, reclaim and celebrate the energy of bodies and their differences.

She has been part of the Strasse collective, a site-specific creation project, which she co-founded in 2010 in Milan, together with F. De Isabella. Strasse worked within the frames of performance and cinema, to question and intensify our relationship to reality.

She has presented her artistic work in various contexts, such as Santarcangelo Festival (IT), ShortTheatre (IT), Triennale Teatro Dell’Arte (IT), far Festival (CH), Sareyett (PS), La Casa Encendida (E), Festival Parallèle (FR), Saal Biennal (EE), Les Tombées De La Nuit (FR), Mir Festival (GR), Beursschouwburg e Kunstencentrum Vooruit (BE).
