A New Chapter for Submerge

Submerge is entering a new chapter

For many years, we were known for producing Submerge Festival, a biennial celebration of experimental, international and boundary-pushing artistic practice. While the festival remains an important part of our history, our work has evolved.

Today, Submerge is a creative producing organisation, working with ambitious artists to develop ideas, realise projects and bring extraordinary work into the world. We’re particularly interested in the possibilities of art beyond conventional cultural venues – in public spaces, found environments, overlooked places and unexpected settings.

Our approach is driven by curiosity, imagination and a willingness to take creative risks. We enjoy working with artists to explore unusual ideas, find new ways of making things happen and create unexpected encounters between art, people and place.

Our history remains an important part of our identity. Founded in Bristol, Submerge presented two international festivals, fathoms (2016) and belonging (2019), before relocating to Manchester and presenting resistance (2022). Our work championing experimental practice and bringing extraordinary artists and audiences together continues to inform the way we work today.

The spirit of experimentation, collaboration and creative risk-taking remains at the heart of Submerge. We’re excited about what comes next.
